NYSF YEAR 12
PROGRAM

APPLICATIONS FOR NYSF 2021 CLOSE JULY 20
National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) Update

Our D9465 students who attended NYSF 2020

Most Rotary Clubs in our district 9465 have a proud history of endorsing and sponsoring local students to attend the famous science forum in Canberra/Brisbane in January of each year. The forum will continue and clubs are encouraged to link up with able Year 11 students in the local high school or college and inform them of this ‘life-changing’ event. The closing date has been extended to Monday 20th July.

Students initiate their application via the website www.nysf.edu.au

Please note that Simon Cubitt (Willetton) will be taking over as NYSF District Chair and his contact email is nysf9465@gmail.com

Simon, together with Patricia Robertson and I will continue as a team to promote and administer the program in D9465.

Many people have been impacted financially by COVID-19. In particular, international students have been hard hit, with sudden loss of part-time jobs, cancellation of all flights and with family back home also affected. Many students are skipping meals and have no way out.

Although Rotary in Australia often has a focus on our near neighbours in the Asia Pacific, many Rotarians and Rotaractors have a strong affinity with Latin America due to our long standing exchange program, as well as family ties, professional links, travel experiences and a love of the rich culture that Latin America offers. The students who are in our Australian communities now are our neighbours and friends and they need help.

Rotary E-Club of Western Australia is partnering with Somos21 Network to enable tax-deductible donations via RAWCS - Rotary Australia World Community Service to provide much needed relief for students from Latin America. Somos21 is a not for profit organisation promoting greater connection and collaboration between professionals across Australia and Latin America.

Significantly, the first $15,000 received via https://donations.rawcs.com.au/130-2019-20 will be matched by a Rotary Australia Compassionate Grant to make $30,000.

Please help us reach this goal before June 30.
If you are able to donate, please do, or please share our campaign.
Latin American students in Australia needing support can apply here: https://somos21apoyo.typeform.com/to/ZlcUXP

Thank you

RC Freshwater Bay is coordinating a Rotary Wine Appreciation Fellowship Chapter

For some time the RC Freshwater Bay has discussed forming a local Chapter of the Wine Appreciation Fellowship, deciding on the name ‘North of the Swan’ as the name of the Chapter.

It is intended that Rotarians from all Clubs interested in participating in the RWAF join Freshwater Bay in this venture.  However, Rotarians need to become members of the Fellowship.  Please see http://www.rotarywine.net/application.html to join for a once off cost of US$110.  Sec. RC Freshwater Bay Di Collins has a supply of the distinctive gold corkscrew  lapel pins which are included with the lifetime membership fee.

If interested in helping to establish and become involved in the RWAF, please contact Vocational Service Director Fiona Tremlett M. 0416 224 134 E: fiona.tremlett@gmail.com
